Spring Development (2013-2017)
The Rocky Mountain RoughRiders AAA Hockey Club is thrilled to partner with Boulder Hockey Club to offer the Elite Spring Training Development Program. This comprehensive spring development program is designed for players born in 2013-2017 and their families.
Our Spring program was created with the goal of providing a holistic hockey development experience for players in the greater Denver area. It includes an in-depth skating system, hockey IQ video training, advanced puck and hand skill development, as well as on-ice vision exercises and competitive gameplay drills.
Led by a team of experienced coaches with decades of playing, coaching, and skill-specific training at the highest levels, the program focuses on pure hockey and athletic development. Through a combination of on-ice, off-ice, and video training sessions, players will experience rigorous, physically demanding sessions designed to challenge and improve every aspect of their game.
Participants in the RoughRiders Spring Training Program will train alongside some of the top player development coaches in the state. We are committed to equipping each player with the skills, knowledge, and preparation needed for the upcoming season.
Get ready to train hard, elevate your game, and take your skills to the next level!

Program Structure and Weekly Breakdown:
- Skill Development Session (1 per week):
Each session is designed to develop and challenge the individual skills of every player, focusing on repetitive muscle memory patterns. This includes dynamic skating, edge work, puck handling, shooting, and both giving and receiving passes.
- Game Skills & Decision-Making Session (1 per week):
This session will build on the foundational skills from the first session and introduce decision-making strategies, both with and without teammates or opponents. Players will gradually progress into small-area games that incorporate these individual skills and decision-making processes, enhancing their overall hockey sense and awareness.
- Video Session (1 per week):
Players will have access to a weekly video session that visually demonstrates the same skills they are working on, performed by some of the best players in the world. This allows players to see elite-level execution and apply those insights to their own training.
- New! Unlimited Dryland Sports Performance (6 weeks):
This year, we are excited to offer unlimited access to Dryland Sports Performance sessions through our off-ice training partner, Impact Sports Performance. These sessions, which run for 6 weeks, include strength training, speed/agility, yoga, plyometrics, boxing, and recovery/mobility. With flexible scheduling and intensity levels ranging from 1-4 for all age groups, players can download the app to view the schedule and select sessions that best “level up” their game.
- Shooting/Goaltender Session:
Goalies will have a dedicated weekly session run by In The Crease Goaltending. In addition to their age-specific skates, goalies will be challenged to improve their play-reading, rebound control, and hockey awareness through small-area games and skill drills. Coaches will also work closely with shooters on scoring tactics and shooting skills, ensuring both players and goalies are put to the test in real-game scenarios.
